Everyone wants to look their best and a white smile is the best start. Unfortunately, as we grow older the teeth don’t
cooperate and stains and discoloration appear as the product of food, coffee, and tobacco. The use of a teeth whitening bleach can help the battle to maintain a healthy and attractive appearance.
One method of using a teeth whitening bleach is to cautiously boil a rubber moldable tray or mouthpiece in water for a few minutes until it becomes soft and then make a bite impression. Follow the instructions carefully about how long to hold the mold in the mouth. Holding the mold too long will make the mold too loose. After shaping the tray to your mouth a gel with teeth whitening bleach gel can be placed inside the tray or mouthpiece to whiten the teeth.
Most teeth whitening bleach will contain Carbamide Peroxide so it’s very important to follow all instructions carefully. Not all treatments are the same so the instructions for all home kits should be read completely and followed exactly. Some preparations will contain higher concentrations of the Peroxide ingredients and discoloration or burning of the soft tissues of the mouth can occur if too much exposure occurs.
High concentrations can usually be used once or twice a month while lower concentrations might have to be used more frequently to get the same result. The plus with the lower concentrations of teeth whitening bleach chemicals is that there’s less chance of side effects and these preparations are usually less expensive.
During the teeth whitening bleach treatment, the active ingredients in the whitening gel breakdown and oxygen enters inside the tooth enamel bleaching embedded stains and discoloration. This only whitens the enamel and causes no damage to the structure of the tooth itself.
If proper care is taken then the results of teeth whitening bleach can be long lasting. Some people find that after a course of initial treatment, they don’t need any touch ups for up to 8 months. This can of course depends on the amount of exposure to staining substances the teeth have over time.
