Laser Teeth Bleaching

Sometimes it’s necessary to make a quick change in appearance.  Maybe a job interview looms in the future, a wedding, or perhaps just a need to socialize more frequently, but dingy yellowed teeth need to be remedied quickly.  In the past, this type of procedure could take months, but now with laser teeth bleaching shiny white teeth are possible in a very short amount of time.

Teeth become yellow over time from stains and bacteria.  Bleaching cleans and removes the yellowing and discoloration without damaging the structure of the tooth.  Most often trays or home kits will do, but these can take time.

Laser teeth bleaching uses a whitening gel and of course a laser.  This is an in-office procedure at the dentist, and while it is more expensive than a regular bleaching or home bleaching procedure it can work twice as fast.

During the laser teeth bleaching procedure the translucent bleaching and whiten agent is applied in gel form to the teeth. Then a laser light is used to activate the crystals in the gel.  This causes the whiten agent to penetrate the tooth enamel and increase the lightening effect on the teeth fast.

The amount of time a patient will need for the laser teeth bleaching treatment depends on the overall condition and discoloration of the teeth. The results are immediately visible after treatment and in most cases it takes only one treatment to considerably lighten and brighten a smile.

Children under 16 years of age shouldn’t have the laser teeth bleaching procedure because the pulp chamber of the tooth nerve is very large until late in adolescence and this could be problematic.  Anyone thinking about the procedure who has sensitive teeth and gums should consult with the dentist about these issues before the laser teeth bleaching procedure is scheduled.

After the new dazzling white smile has been achieved from the laser teeth bleaching procedure it’s important to maintain the teeth.  Regular daily brushing and flossing must continue and a watchful eye kept out for anything that might stain the teeth.  Coffee, strong teas and of course tobacco should be avoided if possible to keep the new pearl white smile that laser teeth bleaching achieves.
